Rooted in our school vision, we offer a rich range of experiences that nurture confidence, develop character and celebrate the unique gifts of every child. Beyond the taught curriculum, pupils are encouraged to explore new interests, take on challenges and discover the joy of learning in community.
Outdoor Adventure: Growing in Courage, Confidence and Wonder
Our outdoor learning journey from Year 3 to Year 6 is one of the most distinctive parts of our school experience. Carefully designed to build confidence and resilience, it helps every child push beyond their comfort zone while feeling supported and safe.
- Year 3 Bushcraft Days: Exploring local woodland and canal environments through survival skills and orienteering, supported by a familiar school base. Even the most anxious learners grow in courage through achievable, enjoyable challenges.
- Year 4 Limestone Days (Yorkshire Dales): Walking, dry ghyll scrambling and light caving in small, well-supported groups foster perseverance, trust and teamwork.
- Year 5 Coniston Residential: Camping, climbing Old Man Coniston and team activities such as raft building help children experience awe in creation, develop independence and discover the joy of achieving together.
- Year 6 Isle of Man Residential: A week of new challenges, adventure and friendship strengthens resilience, confidence and care for others as pupils prepare for secondary school.
At every stage, activities are adapted to ensure all pupils, including our most vulnerable, are included, nurtured and supported.
Music: Celebrating Talent and Creativity
Music is an important part of life at our school. Many children learn instruments both in and out of school and we take great pride in providing them with opportunities to share their talents. From informal performances in worship to whole-school celebrations and community events, we recognise the courage it takes to perform and the joy it brings to others. Our thriving school choir performs at concerts, competitions and local events throughout the year, representing the school with enthusiasm and pride. In Year 6, pupils who have represented the school at five musical events can earn our Music Badge, celebrating their dedication, commitment and service to the school community.
Sport: Competing with Honour, Courage and Respect
Our commitment to school sport reflects our belief that every child is valued and welcomed. We aim for every pupil to represent the school in at least one sporting event before they leave Year 6 and for most, that journey includes many more. By teaching children to participate with honour, courage and respect, we help them understand that competition is not simply about winning, but about humility, teamwork and care for others. Children who represent the school in five or more different sports can earn the Sports Colours Badge, an award that celebrates their perseverance, versatility and contribution to team spirit.
Swimming: Confidence and Safety for Every Child
Living close to the River Lune, Lancaster Canal and Morecambe Bay, we know how vital water safety is. All children swim weekly in Year 3 and Year 4, with Year 5 top-up sessions offered to ensure every child meets the national curriculum requirements. Younger pupils benefit from taster sessions in EYFS and beginner lessons in Year 1 and Year 2, helping to reduce fear, build confidence and encourage positive early experiences in the water. This inclusive approach ensures that every child has the opportunity to grow in courage, resilience and joy through the water.
After-School Clubs: A Chance to Explore and Enjoy
Our after-school clubs offer children the chance to widen their interests, make new friends and have fun. Each year we offer a varied programme that may include: A variety of sports clubs, art and craft, choir, Lego, games club as well as seasonal and themed activities.
One of our most distinctive opportunities is our Beekeeping Club, supported by our two school beehives. Children learn about nature, responsibility and environmental stewardship. In 2023, two of our pupils achieved a National Beekeeping Award, a remarkable achievement that reflects their passion and commitment.
Another well-attended and much-loved opportunity is our Loaves and Fishes Club. Currently run at lunchtimes and led by one of our dedicated governors, Mrs Catherine Straker, this club offers children a calm and reflective space to explore Bible stories, consider their own values and deepen their understanding of how Christianity can guide and enrich daily life. By giving up their time to take part, children develop confidence, compassion and a sense of belonging. Loaves and Fishes is a meaningful expression of our school’s vision in action: reaching out to support our pupils’ spiritual growth and helping them flourish as thoughtful, caring members of our community.
