Governors

The Governing Body plays a vital role in the leadership and management of Bolton-le-Sands Church of England Primary School, working in partnership with the Headteacher to ensure the school provides a high-quality education for every child. Governors are volunteers who bring a range of skills and experiences to support and challenge the school’s leadership, ensuring accountability and strategic direction.

As a Church of England school, the majority of our governors are Foundation Governors, appointed by the Parochial Church Council of Holy Trinity, Bolton-le-Sands, or by Blackburn Diocese, to uphold the school’s Christian ethos. Additionally, we have Parent Governors, elected by parents of children at the school, a Staff Governor, elected by school staff, a Local Authority Governor and the Headteacher, who is a member of the Governing Body. In total, our Governing Body consists of 14 members.

Responsibilities of the Governing Body

Governors work as a team to:

  • Set the school’s vision and strategic direction, ensuring it aligns with our Christian values.
  • Hold the Headteacher to account for the school’s educational performance.
  • Oversee financial performance, ensuring that resources are managed efficiently.
  • Support the spiritual, moral, and cultural development of all pupils, while meeting their individual needs.
  • Ensure the curriculum is broad, balanced, and inclusive for every child.

Governors meet regularly, both as a Full Governing Body and in committees, to discuss progress, plan improvements, and make key decisions. While they are not involved in the day-to-day management of the school, they play a crucial role in shaping its future and maintaining its reputation within the community.

Term of Office and Election

Governors are elected or appointed to serve a term of four years. Elections for parent and staff governors are held as needed, ensuring representation from our school community.

Files of minutes from Governors’ termly meetings and from the meetings of the Committees are available in school for public use. Please note that a number of Governors’ minutes have been designated as ‘confidential’ and are not for public consumption.
